Wildland Firefighter Physical Abilities Test Type 1 (WFPAT1)
The safety and wellness of Type 1 Wildland Fire Fighters (WFF) is a high priority for the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC) and its member agencies.
Type 1 Wildland Fire Fighters must be physically fit to manage wildland fires safely and effectively, as well as to avoid injuries and recover rapidly. In particular, they must have suitable levels of aerobic fitness, muscular strength and muscular endurance.
The Canadian Physical Performance Standard for the Exchange of Wildland Firefighter Type 1 (WFPAT1) is a valid job-related physical abilities standard used to determine whether an individual possesses the physical abilities necessary to meet the rigorous demands encountered while managing wildland fires.
This section provides details on the test itself, equipment, training, instructions, FAQs and contact information.
Do not contact CIFFC for dates and locations of fitness testing as this is arranged by each agency. Agencies and contacts are listed in the FAQ and Contacts page below.
