HAC Helicopter Pilot Competencies

The Pilot Competencies for Helicopter Wildfire Operations - Best Practices Training and Evaluation document is a joint effort between representatives of the HAC Operator membership and Government Agencies involved in wildfire air operations activities. The Pilot Qualifications Working Group developed eight Industry Best Practices in areas identified as having the greatest exposure and risk due to the unique operating environment posed by wildfire operations. The intent is for Agencies to adopt the advanced level of pilot competency as a requisite framework for set standard expectations and for Operators to implement the best practices to ensure their pilots meet competency expectations when flying in wildfire operations.

The General Wildfire Operations Knowledge Best Practice portion can be achieved by completing the three online training modules made available through the Operator. Pilots are encouraged to reach out to their carrier for information on accessing the HAC online training modules. Please note - The online General Wildfire Operations Knowledge courses are designed to be taken once, but operators are welcome to make arrangements with the course provider to reset pilot profiles to take the course again.
